Shoot The Bolt was a surprise winner of the Nevill Dual Distance Trophy Final over 515 metres at Hove on Thursday.

June Harvey’s son of TullymurryAct went to traps a 5-1 chance as the market sent Matt Dartnall’s Nowhere Fast and Seamus Cahill’s Ravens Burger went to traps the 7-4 joint favourites.

It was 4-1 shot Droopys Nirvana who flash out of the traps and was soon clear.  However Shoot The Bolt, who has turned second wore down the leader close home to get up and score by a neck in 30.12sec.

The victory was Shoot The Bolt’s eight open race win of the year.  He has also won two other A1 races at Hove.

Nirvana’s trainer Seamus Cahill had better luck in the final of the Nevill Maiden Sprint over 285 metres.

His youngster Aim For Glory came from last place to catch long-time leader Simply Flawless close home and score by a neck in 16.58sec.

Matt Dartnall’s Distant Village went quickest in the heats of the Nevill 490 when passing pacemaker Volcanic Reef on the third turn to score by three quarters of a length in 28.47sec.

Jason Heath’s Droopys Court was a trap to line winner of the other qualifier when holding Summer call by two lengths in 28.73sec.

Romford Puppy Cup Finalist Make No Apologie impressed in the Nevill Puppy Stakes when riding an early bump to go clear from the second turn and beat Sharp Darcy by just over two lengths in 28.58sec.

He will be aimed at the Seasons Scaffolding Puppy Trophy, which is worth £2,500 to the winner and gets underway next Thursday.

Starting two weeks after that on October 24 is the Coral Brighton Belle.  Seaglass Celine went quickest in the trial stakes when leading at halfway to beat Dodgers Drum by a length and a half in 29.99sec.
