Recent Scottish Derby fifth La Cuchilla and last year’s English Derby runner-up Droopys Ward among the English Derby hopefuls due at Plough Lane on Wednesday morning.
A ‘whos who’ list of top trainers have booked in runners for the morning session including seven-timer winner Charlie Lister OBE.
Charlie expects to have six or seven runners this year, including recent ‘Romeo’ arrivals Treaty, Ballistic and Big Time, but unlike most recent years, he has not been asked to take on any leading Irish open stars.
He said: “I have a few decent young dogs coming through, but they are mainly September and October puppies and are too young.
“But there won’t be anything from PJ (Fahy – the ‘Tyrur man’). I speak to him a couple of times a week but, like a lot of breeders in Ireland, he has cut right back.”
