Droopys Back Up looks a youngster to keep an eye on after an impressive performance in a Puppy Open at Newcastle on Thursday.
Angela Harrison’s March 18 son of Cable Bay, who was beaten on his debut, flew out of the boxes and pulled clear with every stride, eventually beating Ivar by six and a half lengths in 28.52sec.
The time compares favourably with several top open racers who went round the track before racing in trials in preparation for next week’s All England Cup.
