For the vast majority of people receiving a nomination on GBGB Awards evening is a fitting testament to the achievements of their greyhound throughout the previous year. Well respected breeder / rearer Shane O’Gorman learned his trade when working alongside the Dunphy’s at their world famous Droopys Stud establishment however Shane has worked his own set up for quite some time now and breeds , rears and supplies many top class greyhounds to the open circuit here in the UK. An extremely likeable character who tells it as it is the pups reared at Shane’s establishment close by to his previous employer near to Portlaw in County Waterford want for absolutely nothing and the results consistently churned out are testament to that. At the GBGB awards ceremony at the OEC Sheffield on Sunday evening Shane laid claim to not one award victory but four as Coolavanny Aunty and Gougnane Jet stole the show. Aunty emerged victorious as Stayer, Bitch and Greyhound Of The Year for owner Alnwick Greyhound Group and trainer Angela Harrison and was a star member of the September 2019 litter of Droopys Sydney and Yahoo Katie who hails from Shane’s wonder brood Yahoo Perlena. Aunty was always well thought of by Shane and her awards were just reward for a fantastic year from a bitch right out of the top drawer. Whilst Shane might not have bred the sprinter of the year as that honour fell upon Mike Broderick the Alan Curtis , Eamonn Johnston and Stephen Oliver owned , Mark Wallis trained speedster Gougane Jet was reared fantastically by Shane proving that be it for speed or for stamina the O’Gorman set up has the capabilities of producing the goods. A memorable evening for Shane and his team and no doubt at all there will be plenty more winners on the tracks of both Ireland and the UK during the coming year and it will be no surprise at all to see greyhounds bred and reared at the establishment up for even more awards next year.
Shane said “I’m absolutely delighted for all connections. Both greyhounds always looked the part for me here and as always I’m delighted that they’ve gone on to do so well over in England. We aim to give them the very best start to life possible with plenty of freedom and feeding the right diet to ensure that they can become the very best they can once they reach racing age“.
