Coronation preparation

We are at the penultimate stage of the Coral Coronation Cup at Romford for which New Destiny is currently trading at 9/4 ante post, though as short as 7/4 with Bet365 who seem unsually short on their prices in general.

9/4 New Destiny, 5/1 Miami Bullet, 10/1 Minnie Bullet, 12/1 Baywatch Bullet, 14/1 Fabulous Sonique, 18/1 Allowdale Cazoo, Ballymac Johnjo, Cooladerry Dust, 20/1 Ballymac Diana, 25/1 Annual Bono, 33/1 Ballintee Noshow, Swift Radiantly, 40/1 Hazelhill Coco, Tromora Rex, Untold Paanga, 50/1 Droopys By Amile, Joes Sagar

New Destiny will start as a short odds-on favourite in here and if she performs as she did last week, there is no reason to believe that she can be beaten.

The clear and obvious danger might appear to be Baywatch Bullet, who is not without class. However, having been turned over in all three visits to the track, and given the favourite may bully out of the rails slot at the first bend, as happened last week, she would need to break at least on terms with the Wallis runner and head her into the first bend.

Assuming that doesn’t happen, Allowdale Cazoo, who came within a couple of strides of getting a clear run last week, and showed great determination late on, looks a more viable forecast option. 1-5-3

4/6 New Destiny, 9/2, Baywatch Bullet, 7/1 Allowdale Cazoo, 12/1 Untold Paanga, 14/1 Annual Bono, 25/1 Hazelhill Coco

It takes a brave punter to take 7/4 about a dog who was beaten six lengths when he met his main rival last time out, and has won just once in 14 attempts.

Cooladerry Dust is a fast greyhound. The evidence is a 34.74 solo over the Coronation Cup course. If he gets a clear run, he may even step up on that. There is no evidence that Swift Radiantly is capable of anything near that run. But she is drawn on the rail, with an empty box next to her and will have no doubt have been boosted by a ‘clear run on the bunny’ last time out.

Can she find a couple of lengths on her previous run? Probably. Will 35.20 win this? Probably. Will there be trouble with two middle seeds drawn in five and six? You would have to think so. In short, this isn’t about selecting the fastest dog in the race. It is a calculated gamble on who will win it. So 9/4 doesn’t look bad value. 1-5-6

7/4 Cooladerry Dust, 9/4 Swift Radiantly, 7/2 Ballintee Noshow, 8/1 Droopys By Amile, Joes Sagar

The semi final with the four heat winners that don’t include the second in the ante post betting, Miami Bullet. He was beaten last week by Ballymac Diana who showed she will be tough to beat – wide up the straights and cutting the bends – if she leads again. On last week’s evidence, it isn’t obvious why Paul Young’s likely favourite will reverse that form. The bookies clearly feel otherwise.

So much will depend on ‘who leads?’. Although Fabulous Sonique has marginally the quickest sectional and didn’t put a foot wrong last week, there is evidence to suggest that she is a much better breaker from red. Puppy Tromora Rex is progressing with every outing and last week’s run suggests that she might want even further.

As for Minnie Bullet – flawless as ever last week – she is as game as a pebble and will probably feature on more forecast tickets than any other runner in the field.

7/4 Miami Bullet, 5/2 Minnie Bullet, 11/2 Fabulous Sonique, 6/1 Ballymac Diana,  9/1 Ballymac Johnjo, 10/1 Tromora Rex
