TOWCESTER: SUNDAY (featuring Steve Nash photos)
The elimination of Scaglietti and a double for Tom Heilbron were the principal talking points of the KAB Maiden Derby at Towcester on Sunday.
Quickest on the day was Heilbron’s The Other Donny with a 29.11 run beating Irish entry Jaytee Craze who produced a fine run to come from last to second. There was a similar Heilbron/Hennessy forecast in heat five though the margin was a lot closer with Unanimous Leon just holding on.
The sole Irish winner on the day was Graham Holland’s Romeo Steel in 29.45, first over the line in a tight finish in which Scaglietti exited the event.
Junctionfourteen and Miami Bullet provided a double for Romford trainers Nathan Hunt and Paul Young. While Kevin Boon’s puppy Ivy Hill Thunder produce the day’s quickest sectional on his way to a 29.17 win on debut.
The Time Greyhound Nutrition Juvenile was won by Graham Holland’s Munster Juvenile winner Faypoint Harvey. The 11/8f led from trap to line clocking 29.21.
The invitation became a four-runner event following the late withdrawal of likely favourite King Memphis. This followed a disagreement over an extended kenneling time for the Derby favourite.
An acknowledged excitable kenneler, Memphis had been locked away for a couple of hours before the remainder of the field were weighed in following a misunderstanding over procedure.
