Redzer Ardfert sealed a great year for the Irish when adding to the English St.Leger to the Derby at Nottingham as favourite Redzer Ardfert duly obliged in a trouble strewn final. (Click on result below). It was the first time that an Irish based greyhound had won the stayers classic.
The race was the pinnacle of a fine year for owner Pat Reddan and trainer Brendan Maunsell. Their greyhound has won nine of his 15 races over the stayers trip including the €2,500 Weadick Open at Kilkenny and he twice broken the Shelbourne Park 750 clock.
Reviewing the final, Maunsell said: “He got a clear run. I couldn’t see the first bend from here. It is hard to see but once he got a clear run at the first bend I was hopeful. The traveling has to take its toll but he has done everything right.”
