With the strongly fancied Savana Terry eliminated from the KAB Maiden Derby, the Henlow final event has gone from being a potential shoo-in to a punters challenge.
On semi final form the entire field are covered by a length and three quarters and the fastest and slowest appeared in the second qualifier. It went to Blackrose Tiny (Head Bound-Gurrane Blue, May 13). Eric Cantillon’s 8-1 chance clocked a personal best when beating Steeple Rd Vic bu just under two lengths in 27.59 for the 460 metres. 4-7f Terry never recovered from crowding at the traps. However it has been remarkable progress for the 28kg winner who clocked a calculated 29.48 in her A7 debut back in May.
Charity Buster was only two spots slower than Tiny’s semi when landing the final qualifier for John Lambe. The black is still unbeaten in Britain having won two A1s at Perry Barr (28.26, 28.17) prior to his 27.75 and 27.61 victories. Buster gave a start and a length and a half beating to Savana Nureyev.
Simon Cull’s Nice Chance also remains unbeaten in the event having won the first qualifier by half a length from Oneco Maveric in 27.67.
