Paschal Taggart has responded to the news that Sadiq Khan is prepared to listen to submissions before deciding whether to return the Wimbledon Stadium decision to Merton Council (see earlier story) as “absolutely brilliant news”. The Dublin businessman is already planning a submission to the Mayor’s office with details of his plans for the site which would include a new greyhound stadium.

He said: “I can’t understand the negative views that are coming out in the press. My fear was that the Mayor would simply agree to Merton and that would be the end of it. I was hoping to get a meeting, now he is inviting us to make a submission. We are already on it.

“There is no guarantee that we will win but they have problems with traffic and with the affordable housing where they are offering 9.6% up against 50%.”
