PETER HARNDEN

Nottingham trainer Pete Harnden enjoyed an unbelievable BAGS meeting on Tuesday afternoon – though it certainly didn’t start that way.

The GBGB trainer rep arrived at the track with 11 runners and saw the first two finish second and last in the opening race. The next nine runners would result in eight wins and a third (in a race in which he had two runners). The winners returned at various prices between evens and 4-1.

Pete said: “I still can’t believe it, I feel like I am walking on air. It follows a month in which we set a new record of 42 winners at the track. We had been through a bad spell and I think we had been through a virus when the dogs looked okay but just weren’t running well. Several had been downgraded then suddenly this happens.

“It was a great day and a number of the other trainers came over to congratulate me.”

“We have a bitch whelping down tonight which would normally be a turmoil, but given the day we’ve had, I’m quite looking forward to it. I might even go and buy a lottery ticket.”
