He was taking on the might of the Wallis and Hutton kennels, but the oldest runner in the field, Blackstone Marco (Head Bound-Blackstone Mini, Dec 11) completed an open race four-timer to land the RPGTV Standard Final.
Drawn blue, Heather Dimmock’s 11-10f was drawn on the ‘wrong side’ of Calco Flyer as the pair engaged in an early buckle. But as the race unfolded, it became clear that the dog who had won over 575m earlier in his career would relish each of the 500 metres and he duly came home two and a bit lengths clear of Airforce Duchess in 29.62 (-20). It was MJarco’s sixth win – with three seconds – in his last nine races.
