It might be seven weeks away, but Kevin Hutton’s team for a fourth consecutive GAIN Trainers Championship are ticking over nicely.

Possibly half of his team trialled at Towester on Wednesday morning and all impressed their handler.

Quickest of the day was Dorotas Wildcat with a 27.95 (-10) solo for the 480m. Puppy Derby winner Magical Bale recorded 28.16 (-10) with Jelly Flood beating Jetstream Lynx by a length and a half in 28.39.

Kevin said: “I couldn’t have been more pleased with all of them. It was Wildcat’s first run over four bends since a lay-off and he went as well as I could possibly have asked.  Magical Bale did a flying sectional (4.07) and recorded a very good time considering he was cramping in the later stages.

“I would expect to have Wildcat and Bale among the three for the standard along with Bit View Knight, who is a nice young dog who unfortunately went out of the Puppy Classic in the first round.

“Jelly Flood is a promising youngster who is lined up the puppy division and will probably be off to Monmore for the Puppy Derby, albeit he looks more of a stayer.

“I have a choose two from three for the stayers between Frankies Lady, Jovial Monk and Jetstream Lynx though she is only just returning from season. We will have Madabout Maggies in the bitch’s race and without a sprint I will probably switch Forest Chunk back to two bends.”

Most of the above will be kept busy between now and the big night on March 24th.

Kevin added: “I am hoping Towcester stage a few minor opens to give Wildcat a couple of races before the Gold Cup. We have an option with Magical Bale for the Juvenile though I think it is unlikely that he will take part.”

Incidentally, for any interested breeders, straws have been taken from Wildcat during his lay-off and his first two bitches have been inseminated. More straws are available – contact the kennel.
