Defeat for Roswell Romanov – a sparkling eight bend debut for Karlow Turbo – the first Feb ’16 open winner breaks 24.00 – the three major talking points at Romford on Friday.

With just a week before the start of the Coral Champion Stakes, the inevitable ante post favourite Roswell Romanov was beaten going for a nine-timer by David Mullins’ 12-1 shot Stand Alone (Ballymac Eske-Maries Peer, Jan 15) who was completing his own hat-trick over course and distance in a career best, 34.94 (+40).

On a fast track where where eight of the nine open winners broke 24.00 for the 400 metres, the performance of the night was surely produced by the youngest of the 84 runners on show, Kilmore Lemon (Taylors Sky-Lemon Lucy, Feb 16) with a 23.98 (+20) victory.

The meeting concluded with Karlow Turbo (Kinloch Brae-China Doll, Aug 14) making his eight bend debut. Previously successful over Hove’s extended six bend 740m course, the Seamus Cahill trained runner showed few signs of back pedalling when winning by a black head under eight lengths in 46.60 (+50).

That run puts the Derby winner’s brother in the same company as Roxholme Magic’s 46.59 (normal) in a match race and Aayamza Breeze 46.51 (+30).
