Henlow Derby winner Southern Mesut justified 6-4 favouritism in the Stadium Bookmakers Sprint Final over 305 metres when pulling clear off the opening turn to beat Mays Teejay by almost three lengths in 17.63sec.

Romeo Ballistic, the 1-2 favourite, was soon clear in the Betfred British Bred Final over 480 metres to slam Westmead John by over four lengths in 28.71sec.

Romeo Damo looked a promising puppy for the future after going quickest in the Stadium Bookmakers Maiden Puppy Standard over 500 metres.

Hayley Keightley’s runner was soon in control to beat Sarasota Rose by almost three lengths in 29.93sec.

Dave Firmager’s Romeo Arturo avoided the trouble at the opening turn in heat one to lead off the second turn and beat Droopys Rum by a head in 30.01sec.

In the all-age Molston Coors Maiden Trophy, Nigel Saunders’ Slaheny Kate went quickest when making all to slam Sallows Ford by almost five lengths in 28.92sec.

Mick Hurst’s Rock Me Kewell led off the second turn in heat two to hold Charlie Lister’s unlucky hot favourite Rafa Wee Pet by a short head in 28.95sec.

George Power’s Droopys Dampier led off the last turn in heat three to account for Clounamon Joke by two lengths in 29.03sec.

In trials before racing Bromwich Tom was the biggest eye-catcher when clocking 29.75sec for 500 metres.
