The old adage about ‘backing bitches in form’ paid dividends at Hove on Thursday with three ladies in particular doing the business for punters.

The pick of the bunch was possibly Queen Adele (Tullymurry Act-Skate On, Oct 15). John Lambe’s recent intake covered the 285m course in a decent 16.27 (-15). She remains unbeaten in four outings this year.

Richard Baker’s Princess Aurora (Ballymac Vic-Pennys Lady, Oct 15), who turned over King Turbo on her last visit to the seaside, beat local star Black Zack in the 475m open clocking 28.06 (-40). The bitch’s whose career began with defeat in A7 at Henlow has 17 wins and 6 seconds from 31 races.

Finally, Leaders Bell (Blonde Snapper-Coco Pops, Mar 15) made it five wins and a second (sh) from her last six races with her third consecutive photo finish. Richard Rees’ 7-4 chance beat Queen Borneo in 30.66 (-30) for the 515m.

Matt Dartnall had the single open winner on the night but maintained his lead at the top of the Hove open race trainers table.

His sole winner Droopys Tess (Romeo Recruit-Droopys Blossom, Aug 16) had been beaten by Bodell Rossie in A6 company in her last outing at home venue, Towcester.

By a bizarre coincidence, 15 minutes after Tess’s Hove success, Lukin For Henry (Droopys Scolari-Lightfoot Molly, Aug 16) won a 515m maiden for Seamus Cahill. The pup is another ex-Towcester runner whose final race was an A7 defeat by Bodell Rossie.
