Eden The Kid gave his supporters a few anxious moments before landing the final of the £8,000 British Breeders Stakes over 500 metres at Nottingham last night writes Jason Craddock.

The 2-7 favourite stumbled at the start and was stone last as the field approached the first turn with Honest John and Damson Jam disputing the lead.

However the Liz McNair trained runner ran a cracking first two bends and flew down the back straight to lead on the third turn.

He pulled away and came home almost five lengths clear of Honest John in 29.59sec.

Assistant trainer Rab McNair said: “I thought the dog came away fine but he just stumbled and when he was stone last I didn’t think he could win.

“But he’s very special and showed how good he was tonight.

“We are in two minds whether to come back to Nottingham in a few weeks’ time to run in the Eclipse. If he doesn’t than he will be rested for the winter. We want to go back to Wimbledon next year as we think he is a serious Derby dog.”

Fabulous Sully was a shock 14-1 winner of the Truframe British Bred Oaks Final over 500 metres.

Paula Timmins’ bitch flew out and made all to hold the persistent challenge of Fabulous Flair in 30.21sec.

Select Stakes winner Swift Hoffman could only finish fourth in the top Standard race over 500 metres.

Steve Race’s La Maqina disputed the lead with Maum Legend before pulling clear at halfway to beat Light Foot Mata by just over three lengths in 29.59sec.
