Ante-post favourite Roxholme Magic failed to make the final of the TV Trophy when finishing only third in the heats over 906 metres at Towcester.

The race went to Irish Corn Cuchulainn winner Ballymac Bonnie, who went clear on the second lap to eventually score a seven and a half length victory over Alma Prince in 55.29sec, which equalled the track record.

Roxholme Magic never appeared to handle being constantly on the turn and was a further length and a quarter back in third.

Droopys Cottage set a new track record when landing the last qualifier.

Dean Childs’ bitch was soon clear and ran her rivals ragged. Ribble Atom made late gains but was still three and a quarter lengths adrift of the winner by the line. The time was 55.17sec.

Childs had looked likely to have a double with Droopys Tamera when she raced clear in the second qualifier but Tony Gifkins’ Bubbly Time passed her on the penultimate turn to score by two and a half lengths in 55.34sec.

Draw for the final:

1 Bubbly Time

2 Ribble Atom

3 Alma Prince

4 Ballymac Bonnie

5 Droopys Cottage

6 Droopys Tamera
