Yarmouth assistant racing manager Ben Mannall was on the mark when tipping beaten first round runner Soviet Paddy to land the £1,000 Track Championship at Yarmouth.
After the first round he prophesied: “Soviet Paddy! (beaten half a length in this heat). This is the one that for me has massive potential to win the competition. He is very lightly raced and has not long come over from Ireland. In very good hands with John.”
And so it proved. Rated a 9-2 chance in the 462m decider, the early paced wide was soon leading off a 5.41 sectional and he extended his lead over Urban Road to three and a half lengths at the winning line to clock 28.07, the fastest of his five wins in seven outings to date.
