Yarmouth’s first greyhound sale in many years was a huge success with Bury St Edmunds based owner trainer Colin Finch buying the highest two lots.
Fastest of the day was an exceptional 28.02 run by three year old Express Cotton (Droopys Scolari-Express Trend, May 13). The 29.17 (-30) Thurles winner was sold for 2,150gns.
Top lot at 2,400gns was puppy Archaton Somedog (Kinloch Brae-Archaton April, Sep 14), a recent 29.44 (-30) winner at Enniscorthy.
Assistant racing manager Ben Mannall said: “After all the recent positives samples from sales dogs we were aware that we were under the microscope. We made sure than none of the dogs who trialled were from vendors wh0se dogs had previously failed a test.
“But the quality of dogs was exceptionally good; you won’t get too many dogs do 28.02 first time around Yarmouth. Only two runners failed to do grading time (30.00) and they were in the same trial and bumped each other or would surely have gone a lot quicker.
“25 of the 32 dogs were sold and I think at least 15 are staying here with others going to Kinsley and Peterborough. On the basis of what we know so far, we will definitely run another sale in the future.”
