Yarmouth are fully booked in their restaurant both Monday and Wednesday this week, and almost full for their equivalents next week.
The Norfolk venue were backed by the county and town Council in their interpretation of Government orders on elite sport and have now staged two greyhound meetings and a stock car event with paid attendances within the last week. The motor sport attendance was voluntarily capped at just under 1,000.
Promoter Simon Franklin said: “We could have had 2,000 here to be honest, but didn’t want to force the issue. The council came along and were happy with the controls we had put in place and thankfully it has been quite busy. We can seat 180 in the restaurant on Mondays and Wednesdays and like a lot of places, racegoers have taken advantage of the Government’s ‘eat out’ initiative during the week.
“General admission is £9, and a meal in the restaurant is £23, but take off the tenner and it is great value. The Saturdays haven’t been so busy because the offer isn’t available, though we are looking to see if we can put something on to tempt the diners at the weekend; so there is capacity in the restaurant this coming Saturday.
“General admission has also been quite disappointing and we will lost money last weekend but it is just good to be racing again.”
In addition to the financial benefit of allowing in the crowds, the NCC interpretation of the Covid rules means Yarmouth owners can be present to watch their greyhounds race.
