Yarmouth are throwing an extra £25,000 into prize money and hope that most can be recouped by future streaming earnings.
For the first time, the Caister Road stadium will not reduce its ‘also ran’ cash when the BAGS contract ends at the end of April.
Promoter Simon Franklin said: “Our BAGS also-ran money would normally drop from £25 to either £20 or £22 depending on grades. This year we will maintain those figures despite the fall in income.
“The reality is we would not race on a Monday or Wednesday but for BAGS which is fine in the winter but we are then off the schedule during the summer. Although the crowds are bigger then, we probably only make a profit on about six Monday meetings each year; Wednesday is only slightly better. Although BAGS fixtures are seemingly better paid than RPGTV meetings, they aren’t year-round.
“At the same time, we need to keep the kennel strength up for when BAGS returns in September. At this stage we don’t know how much we will benefit from the live streaming income but hopefully it will cover the additional prize money.”
Nicki Carr was the trainer in form at Yarmouth on Monday. Her eight runners resulted in a 1,470-1 five-timer.
