Its an old cliche but it is business as usual at Wimbledon as they switch back to a two meeting schedule.
The recent announcement that Mayor Sadiq Khan had ‘done a Pontius Pilate’ by allowing Merton Council to determine the future of the stadium, followed by the objection to Government by Wandsworth Council, has only heightened the uncertainty over stadium’s future. Added to that, it now appears that a neighbouring recently constructed supermarket and a car accessories store are considering legal action against Merton Council having been told that they would not be allowed to trade on Saturdays once football returns.
For GM Keith Hallinan, the immediate priority is filling his restaurant as the RPGTV cameras descend on Plough Lane for the autumn Thursday night schedule.
He said: “Personally, I don’t see things changing here any time soon, and I am not just talking about the six month break clause in the lease. I would guess there is a long way to go before anything significant happens. In the meantime, we need to raise awareness for our Thursday night meetings. We have six opens and four graded this Thursday and have arranged some special deals in the restaurant for three course meals. All the details are on the website.”
