Even before the Derby final was staged, the Wimbledon racing office were bracing themselves for the imminent challenges of BAGS racing.

The track are soon to go live to the betting shops on Saturday evenings with racing manager Gary Matthews anticipating some runner juggling in the early weeks.

He said: “We have looked at the minimum racing options which are eight races on a Friday and twelve for the BAGS meeting on the Saturday. That is a minimum requirement of 120 runners and we have 138 available. By the time you schedule in reserves, it makes it very tight, though we are hoping to run a few opens too.”
