A busy summer of greyhound racing ahead

There is no relenting as July turns to August. After five Category One finals in just seven days at the end of July, there are three more competitions and a one off which will be run in August. With the kids off school, it’s a perfect time to head to the track and enjoy a day at the races.

Monmore hosts the Ladbrokes Gold Cup and Summer Stayers

Monmore hosts a Category One doubleheader in August. Saturday the 24th is the date to put in the diary with the Ladbrokes Gold Cup and Summer Stayers on the card.

Links Maverick was the second-quickest winner in the history of the Gold Cup last year. Only Droopys Buick has stopped the clock in a quicker time. Liz McNair has been successful in the last two runnings of the Summer Stayers. Warzone Tom and Frompillartopost have won for the Kent-based trainer.

Bank Holiday Monday at Nottingham

The start of National Greyhound Week is August 26. There is no better way to begin than with a huge card at Nottingham where the entry is free. Six of the top stars in the sport will contest the Select Stakes which this year has a boosted prize fund of £12,500. Also on the card is the final of the Puppy Classic with both competitions sponsored by Jenningsbet.

Clona Duke made history for Graham Holland in 2023 when he became the first Irish winner of the Select Stakes. The famous invitation race will have the participants selected from those entered, by the GWA the week before the race.

Produce Stakes 2024

The opening round of the Produce Stakes from Swindon will be run on August 29. Run across four consecutive Thursday meetings, the pick of the 2022 British litters will be lining up in search of the £10,000 first prize. An iconic competition which was first run in 1946, the Liz McNair kennel has won four of the last seven editions.
