Joe’s Wednesday Tips
*** 8.31 Yarmouth – Fab Roy
** 9.11 Romford – Pearlthepug
*9.04 Yarmouth – Swift Carlo
A winning Nap and two seconds saw a frustrating Tuesday evening heading into Wednesday.
The Nap of the evening is in the A2 at 8.31 at Yarmouth. Fab Roy returns to the track having been competing in open race and A1 company at Romford and Perry Barr. Her last race at Yarmouth was an A1 success back on April 24 so drops a grade here now back on home soil and has a good draw from trap one to work from.
Always Along in trap two can go to the bend well but should give Fab Roy plenty of room on the run to the first bend so any improvement on last weeks 28.20 trial over C&D should see Fab Roy run well.
The Next Best is Pearlthepug in the A3 at Romford at 9.1. Nathan Hunt’s bitch hasn’t won since March but finds herself in a race here with a good draw on the inside in trap one with a vacant box in two.
She stays well and if keeping herself to herself on the inside getting clear run, she can time her run to perfection to pick up her first victory in nearly five months.
The value bet for the evening is in the 9.04 at Yarmouth. Swift Carlo from trap two in A2 company is between two dogs he should lead if coming away, in Innfield Hero and Chelms Chris.
He hits patches of good form including winning an A3 breaking the 28 second barrier in July so a repeat of that would see him go close this evening.
Select Stakes Draw
The draw for the Jenningsbet Select Stakes and Select Stayers was performed live this morning.
Both races will be run as part of the bumper card next Monday to start National Greyhound Week. The six participants in the Select Stakes were chosen from the eight nominees with the Select Stayers gaining the six required.
The two reserves for the Select Stakes are Superfast Gorden and Salacres Slick. They will get a run if any of the chosen field do not run.
Bar One Irish Laurels to be shown on Virgin Media
Excellent news from Ireland that Cork greyhounds will be live on Virgin Media in October.
Greyhound Racing Ireland have announced that the Final of the Laurels on October 5 will be shown on Virgin Media. There is a first prize of €30,000 on offer to the winner with the opening round on September 7. The competition which was first run in 1944 was won last year by High Trend for Graham Holland.
Sponsored by Bar One, the recent Bar One Sprint winner Broadstrand Syd would pick up a €10,000 bonus from the sponsors if he is able to win the Curraheen Park competition as well. His trainer John Linehan knows what it takes to win the race, successful in the 2020 Laurels with Runninta Seeya.
Produce Stakes trial session on Thursday
It is a potentially informative trial session at Swindon on Thursday. There is only a week until the opening round of the Produce Stakes.
New conditions for the Produce Stakes
From this year onwards, the entry procedure for the Produce Stakes will be changed to bring it in line with other category one competitions.
The old system, with entry at litter stage and 3 subsequent acceptance stages will be replaced by a single entry at no cost, as with other competitions. Closing date is NOON on Monday 26 August. Although that is a bank holiday, the office will be open to take last minute entries.
The first round will be held on Thursday 29 August, with each round on consecutive Thursdays until the final on 19 September.
Greyhounds must be British bred, whelped in 2022 and fully named and registered in the Greyhound Stud Book.
Prize money will be £10,000+ Trophy for the winner, £2,000 for second and £1,000 for other finalists. The breeder of the winner will receive £2,000+ Trophy with breeders of the other finalists receiving £500
