Tips for Wednesday

Two seconds and a void race made for a frustrating Tuesday evening on the tipping front.

We head to the Midlands for our Nap of the evening and a puppy running in D4 for Dave Welding at 6.26 pm. Trap two Moyar Sid was a major eye-catcher on debut before putting in a below-par run on his second start. He has completely missed the break on both occasions and is a winner waiting to happen when he traps slightly better.

Aero Tony won well in the grade last week but has Moyar Sid on his immediate inside. As such, this is all about how Moyar Sid comes away. If he traps better than he has been, he wins.

The 8.13 pm at Yarmouth is where we see the Next Best. Trap three Vis A Vis has been inconsistent of late. Put in two impressive runs and victories at Towcester and most recently Central Park but his Yarmouth form has flattered to deceive although excuses can be made.

He runs in an A1 tonight where he lines up against Leeview Glory who got the better of him back on the first of this month. Vis A Vis was crowded early before working hard to hit the front from the second bend. He then gave the lead up to Leeview Glory at the third bend where he stumbled.

If Vis A Vis breaks on terms he can have this race at his mercy by the second bend with two dogs inside him he should lead including Leeview Glory.

We stay at Yarmouth for the value bet of the evening. Dick Turpin put in an impressive display finishing second to Bonjurno Bay last Wednesday. He kept the deficit to under four lengths with the winner clocking 27.58 calculated.

This looks like a drop in class in terms of A1s where Dick Turpin from trap four can pace up to the first bend. He can take advantage of a potential coming together between the inside trio Rapido Piper, Murrow Inkosi and Kilcash Bell. If Dick Turpin turns in front or worse case behind Rapido Piper I would fancy him to go on and win the 7.06 at the East Anglian Track.

Suffolk Downs Fire

Suffolk Downs Racing Manager Robbie Steward is hoping that racing will return to the track sooner rather than later following the fire at the stadium on Tuesday.

He said: “I haven’t seen the damage, we weren’t allowed on site by the fire brigade. We don’t know where the fire started, it was spotted by Dave Coventry who lives on site. The call to the first brigade was at 5.30.

“The main barn and sheds containing a lot of equipment for our racing and stock car are all burned down.

“As far as we know, the judge’s box and vet’s room haven’t been touched, because of where they are located. A lot will depend on whether there is damage to the kennels: fire, smoke or water.

“There is no electric on site, though Kevin (Boothby-promoter) is looking at bringing in generators if they are necessary. We don’t anticipate any problems with running water.

“We’re currently speaking to GBGB to see if we can get dispensation to run meetings on one of the other tracks. We could do inter-tracks, though that isn’t ideal, given most of our dogs won’t know the other tracks.

“We’ll know a lot more after Kevin has inspected the damage later today but realistically, it shouldn’t be months until we are racing again. With any luck it might only be a couple of weeks or less.

“We will keep everyone informed as soon as we know more.”

Since talking to Robbie it has been announced that the track will not race in August.

Aero celebration

AERO SACUNDAI is set for a trial over 480m at Monmore as connections of the Richie Taberner-trained star decide on whether the upcoming Ladbrokes Gold Cup is the next target for the brilliant Pall Mall winner. 

That was the news from Stuart Forsdike, part-owner of the Towcester sprint track record holder, whose victory in the Hope Jeal Sprint Trophy was one of the highlights of Star Sports/TRC English Derby Final night. Successful since in the BetGoodwin-backed showpiece at Oxford, this in-form son of Ballymac Cashout is on a roll and could be stepped up in trip now to 480m.
Reflecting on his Category One victory at the weekend, Forsdike said: “It was a special night – and a special win. You could see that with my reaction on the terraces – that was a bit embarrassing! However, it’s been a long time for a Cat One victory and I suppose it shows you what it means to us owners. My last one was in 2011 and, although I’ve got to a few finals, that win seemed ages ago. 

“It was also special for our kennel. It was Richie’s first Cat One, so really well done to him and Jo (Slater), especially.

“In terms of what’s next for Sacundai, there are so many things in the Calendar. The Gold Cup at Monmore, the Yarmouth Derby, the Scurry – possibly Ireland at the end of the year even. So plenty to go at, we’re just reflecting now. I think the plan is a trial at Monmore over the 480m to see how he goes.”
