20 more for Monmore

The debate about the wisdom of reducing Category One competitions from 48 to 36 entries will surface again following the massive oversubscription of the Ladbrokes Winter Derby at Monmore.

Racing Manager Tony Williamson and his team are left with a huge headache of disappointing the connections of 20 runners following a powerful entry in both quality, as well as quantity (56).

Williamson asked: “Could you please express my sincere apologies to the connections of all those we were unable to accommodate. It really was a top class entry of fabulous greyhounds.”

The meeting will also feature four supporting opens with a split kenneling.
First kenneling: races 1 to 6 – 9.40am –  Second kenneling: race 7 onwards 11.20am

Jess in back
There were some interesting trialists at Crayford on Tuesday with the return of local heroine Laughil Jess following a short break.
Dave Lee’s bitch clocked a very respectable 23.16 and will be a huge attraction for the forthcoming Bussey Memorial.
Meanwhile the KSS Syndicate’s Queen Pink was quickest over the 540 metre course when holding off Havana Lover. The latter, a multi Cat One winner, is expected to be entered for the Premier Greyhound Racing Golden Jacket.
Both events get underway on Saturday February 10.
