Former Doncaster director John Watson was jailed for five years and three months for his part in a counterfeit cigarette operation which led to the loss of millions of pounds in customs revenue.

Full story

As is stated in the press release, the case is now three and a half years old and although there appears to be no immediate threat to racing – Watson was listed as a steward and hare driver, not as the licensed promoter – it remains to be seen if HMRC determine that they have a claim against the stadium. Watson resigned as a director of Meadowcourt Stadium Ltd earlier this month.

Doncaster have declined the opportunity to comment on this issue prior to Mr Watson’s appeal, which we will of course, publish when available.

In the meantime, the message from the executive remains ‘business as usual’.
