The unanimous passing of detailed planning approval to build 94 houses in Wallyford has re-ignited hopes of a new greyhound stadium being built some 16 years after initial plans were unveiled writes Floyd Amphlett.
Site owner and Edinburgh businessman Howard Wallace (right) had always stated that the building of the adjacent stadium was dependent on raising funds through the sale of housing. He has faced a long battle with planners having been rejected in 2010 but later winning on appeal at Holyrood.
Wallace, is a long term greyhound owner with Francie Murray in Ireland and also owns the Irish track Longford where he is also a regular sponsor.
Wallace was unavailable for comment today but has previously stated that the building of the new houses and stadium will take place in tandem.
