Three of Saturday’s Gold Cup second round heats were won in times between 28.40-28.43, the fourth was the considerably quicker run by Sidarian Vega (Westmead Hawk-Manic Fantasy, Aug 13).
Graham Holland’s Juvenile Classic winner, who finished fourth in the first round, gave a flawless front running display to win by 12 lengths in 28.11.
The fastest first round winner Slippery Fred narrowly failed to keep his unbeaten tag when outstayed by Pat Buckley’s Lenson Sanchez in 28.43. The Ponder/Buckley partnership doubled up in the following heat as Lenson Panda beat Skywalker Pearl by four and a half in 28.40.
The night would finish 2-2 for Buckley and Holland with Vega’s kennelmate Proud Graham beat Fair Taxes by three in 28.41.
