The British Breeders Stakes might not be the highest profile event on the SKY calendar but the supporting card is a real cracker with a string of intriguing clashes to test even the best form judges. There appears to have been plenty of trading throughout the day.
7-11 The TV card gets underway with a puppy maiden and it is well worth some attention. Heading the market having been shortening all day is Dave Pruhs’ Pollys Pim (7-4 best). A winner of her only race in Ireland in 28.66 at Limerick (fastest of the night by half a second), she is running in her second UK event having been narrowly beaten on debut and is surely open to big improvement from trap one – her successful slot in Ireland. Next best in the market is the improving Windswept Elm. She recently moved into A1 company and looks capable of breaking 30.00, but she is giving away four months to a runner that looks set to win plenty of opens. Selection: Pollys Pim
7.26 Sidarian Padre (w/d) is replaced by Forest Danny (13-2) in an open that would grace a BAGS race – only two betting points separate the other five who range from 7-2 to 11-2, with no obvious clear favourite or wide seeds. Given the lay-out of the race and lack of early pace on the inside, Greenhill Gem could lead from five and move across to the bend as she did at Newcastle. The 37kg Fourpenny Blaze will not be as easily brushed off as Sidarian Riva and his 4-1 looks as good as any. Selection: Fourpenny Blaze
7.43 Suirside Leah head the market for the sprint at any price between evens and 11-8. She is a lovely reliable bitch, well drawn and capable of breaking 17.70, but those odds look a bit skinny given she was beaten on merit last time out by Viking Jimmy who is rated at 11-2 chance, and this is an ultra competitive race. You could make claims for all five bar reserve Coolronan Tictac (T3), who replaces Derryadd Dynamo. The value is surely the classy Daytime Flyer, (7-1) and hopefully on his way back to his brilliant best Selection Daytime Flyer
7.59 This will probably be the last race as a juvenile for Kildallon Bolt (8-11f) – and he should go out on a bang. Arguably the second best pup in training behind Bubbly Bluebird, Bolt knows the circuit better than he knows his paddock at home. The obvious danger is Garryglass Champ who turned the favourite over at Towcester but this is Nottingham. Selection Kildallon Bolt
8.16 The 680m stayers event sees four year old Droopys Cottage trading at 11-8f, followed by Sheffield specialist Mexican Peso at well backed 9-4 during the day, with Fearsome Phantom next best at 5-1, 9-1 Thinkingofdarcy. If he was battle hardened it would be easy to make a claim for Pat Rosney’s Phantom, but given it is his first six-bender in six weeks, the vote goes to the remarkable Mexican Peso. Elaine Parker’s runner has open race sprint form (16.16 Sheffield), has 27.84 480m form at the same track, and has also won over 500m and 660m. He hasn’t trialled but is worth a chance at those odds. Selection Mexican Peso
8.33 The 500m open looks fairly open with the layers cutting Kranky Damo into 5-2f. Seamus Cahill’s runner exceeded many expectations in the Kent Derby where he finished runner-up. Better value can be had with Alpha Carinea who has excellent form at Doncaster, has trialled over course and distance and is 9-2 with Betfred Selection Alpha Carinea
8.51 Course and distance winner Malls Pet has been well punted down to 9-4 in the marathon. Given the bumping that seems likely to take place, Romford raider Atlantis Jacob looks as though he will be well suited to the trip and can be tickled at 6-1. Selection Atlantis Jacob
9.08 Droopys Acrobat is unbeaten in the event and although he doesn’t have a big advantage on the clock, the draw seems to have worked in his favour. The Irish Cesarewitch winner has enough early pace to seize the inside rail at the first bend, and go on for a comfortable victory. Selection Droopys Acrobat
