47/49 Crayford lots sold

Another busy Sales day at Crayford took place yesterday when 47 of the 49 lots were sold for just under a total of £69,000.

As anticipated the top lot on the day was Honestly Norush who recorded a very impressive fastest of the day 23.32 on his first look at Crayford in Trial 6.

The September 22 blue dog by Droopys Sydney out of Mon Amie has joined the Ricky Holloway kennels and he looks cut out for the Romford Puppy Cup in a few months time.

Other notable purchases on the day included £4,500 Lot 42 Anthony who recorded 23.59 and now joins the training ranks of Theresa Dornan for new owner John Wales plus £4,000, Lot 38 Jaykay Craze who recorded 23.74 and now joins Gemma Evans for the Pompey Ventures syndicate.

Nathan Corden said “It was pleasing to have a sell rate of 96%, however the average price was slightly down at just under £1500, but I think there were quite a few bargains in Crayford yesterday which will please the customers.

“Premier Greyhound Sales is really starting to establish itself as yesterday was just our sixth sale and already over the last month we have supplied just over 100 winners across the tracks in the UK.

“Our next sale is on Friday 7th June at Monmore and already we have in excess of 80 entries so I am expecting a high quality sale there.”

The Maidens return to Newcastle

Tonight features three semi finals of the BGRF British Bred Maiden Derby at Newcastle. There were some glimpses of quality in the opening round. With the benefit of additional course knowledge, who can use this event as a significant career step?

1st rd results  Videos: A Bit Of NoahRomeo CrossfireWitton MylesUntold QuetzalRomeo Jackson –  Queen Ariana

Ante post: 4/1 Romeo Crossfire, 5/1 Romeo Jackson, 6/1 Rioja Bungle, 10/1 Untold Quetzal, 14/1 Keefill Chase, 16/1 Coppice Lottie, Romeo El Aguila, Queen Ariana, 22/1 Bang On Polly, 25/1 Witton Myles, 40/1 Tickets Bullet, Wraysbury Oakley, 50/1 A Bit Of Noah, Hurry Up Brendan, 66/1 Blackhouse Alan, Sirdar, Wraysbury Apollo

It isn’t just the first bend winning time but the draw which makes Romeo Jackson the selection in here. Although he would appear to be a badly drawn railer, he looked a comfortable middle seed in how he took the first bend in the heats. With the painfully slow trapping Sirdar on his outside, he should get the best of runs. Keefill Chase was mullered after a few strides in the opener and should get a better run this time providing he comes off the better of exchanges with neighbour Coppice Lottie. 5-1-2

Another five railers and a middle and there is guaranteed to be crowding. Romeo Bungle showed plenty of pace in his heat but cannot be so slow into his stride this time around. Bang On Polly was beaten three by Queen Ariana but matched her pace later in the race and might get a better run on the outside. 6-5-1

The best of the semis by a very long way featuring five heat winners. Untold Quetzal looked a bit special in his heat – for a pup making his debut – and his draw on the inside of quickest qualifier Romeo Crossfire makes him the selection. Crossfire did nothing wrong on the heats and would be the choice if the traps were reversed but his pace comes in the second half of the run-up, by which time Quetzal may be gone. Assuming there is first bend traffic, Witton Myles and Queen Ariana may benefit. 1-2-6

Emily Wallis Derby Blog

As she continues her journey to find the stories behind some of the participants in this year’s Star Sports/TRC English Derby, Emily Wallis visited the KSS Syndicate run by Liz and Rab McNair.

They have ten entries, nine of which they bred themselves and including the ante post favourite King Memphis.

** DERBY UPDATE:
There have been five withdrawals from the Derby so far today: Sehnsa Stowe, Makeit The Bear, Chelms Elaine, Pennys Lynx and Ryhope Glen.

The track staged a trial session this morning where a number of Derby entries were given their final work out.

Trainer John Mullins was in attendance and contacted us to say: “I am the first to criticise Towcester when they get it wrong but I gather there is some rubbish on social media about the track being bad and the hare breaking down.

“That isn’t the case at all. The hare was slowed after a dog picked up a gracilis (injury). That was it. It is true that the track was slow. I had ‘Goofy’ and ‘Bombay’ down for sprints and wouldn’t have trialled them over four bends if they had been booked in for 500s.

“But that isn’t a criticism. Give me a slightly slower surface every day. The track was in good order.

“I also think Yarmouth deserve credit last night when they had to cancel their meeting. They realised that there was an issue with the hare at kenneling and called the meeting off straight away. At some tracks, they would have kept you hanging around for two or three hours.”
