X-rays have revealed that The Other Reg sustained a three millimetre fracture in the tibia during a trial at Sheffield on Tuesday night.
Trainer Pat Rosney said: “It is a fracture rather than a break which explains why he didn’t break down during or after the trial. The injury is too small to operate on, and we will leave him off and hopefully allow the bone to fuse. You never know, maybe it will heal and he can return to the track, though it will be months, not weeks. If he shows any signs of not being the dog he was, he won’t run him again.
“I had John Gilburn on the phone first thing this morning offering sympathies on behalf of the track which was very much appreciated, and I have updated him since. In fact, I would like to thank all those people who have been in touch.”
