A quirky question for you. What is (probably) unique about Mo’s Bullet?
The answer is right there in front of your eyes.
The 2015 Chelsea Glass Grand National winner might be the only ‘apostrophied’ winner of a category competition.
The fact is you don’t get many ”” in greyhound’s names because the stud books don’t allow it. Even Derby winner I’m Slippy was actually registered as Im Slippy, both for racing and breeding purposes. Then around 15 years or so ago, the rules changed.
GBGB registrar Dave Levy explains: “It was back in the old NGRC days that they amended rule 25. Even though the stud books were not keen to allow apostrophes, the rule allowed a change in the name of a greyhound in the use of capitalisation or punctuation if requested. In fact, there were several reminders sent out to allow owners to do so.”
So did anybody take them up on their offer?
“Yes, there have been a few”
Can you think of any examples?
“Not off the top of my head, no.”
We’ve checked through the list of big race winners and thus far, the few apostrophes found appear to be the result of sloppy journalism based on grammatical assumption. Unless you know different. . .
