The Racecourse Promoters Association (RCPA) held their AGM and elections on Wednesday.
The return to a five-man executive following a temporary appointment of John Gilburn to became a sixth member (and alternate GBGB director), plus the retirement of Clive Feltham, Billy King, and John Curran, meant changes were inevitable.
(Shawfield promoter King was one of the founder members of RCPA with over 25 years service of both that organisation and the industry stakeholders on the British Greyhound Racing Fund.)
Bill Glass, Rachel Corden and John Gilburn retained their positions but now been joined on the RCPA executive by Yarmouth’s Simon Franklin and Pelaw Grange’s Jeff McKenna. They quintet will elect a chairman and four of the five will be nominated for positions on the GBGB Board of Directors.
It seems likely that the current trio of Glass, Corden and Gilburn will continue in those roles, with either Franklin or McKenna joining GBGB for the first time as the fourth promoter representative. GBGB will then make their own nominations for board places on the BGRF.
One insider said: “It was one of the most productive meetings I can ever remember at the RCPA. Any thoughts that the groups would split into GMG and ARC groups were completely unfounded. There was some fruitful discussion and agreement on some very important issues.”
