Rab McNair was delighted by King Turbo’s trial at Nottingham on Monday.
A 29.76 (+30) solo trial off a 514 split last week was followed up last night with a 29.63 (+30) off a 5.04 split last night. The McNair team also gave their May 2017 pup, King Idol , his first sighter of Colwick Park , 29.79 (+30)
Diane Henry’s Savana Floyd has plenty of experience of Nottingham recorded 29.81 (+30) off a 5.20 split whilst the Alan Bellis trained Liberty Hawk recorded 29.89 (+30).
The assistant trainer said: “Although the time was just a bit quicker, I was much more satisfied with his action. He definitely seemed to benefit from the extra run.
“The plan is to bring him back again next Monday for another look, then perhaps a couple of one-offs and we will make a decision about running him in the Derby then. I was very happy with King Idol. I realise that a couple of the local judges had the run slightly slower than the hand timing, but even then, I couldn’t be disappointed.
“I had a chat with Pat Rosney after the trials and there are few better judges of a dog at Nottingham than Pat. He gave both dogs a big endorsement.
“The more I think about it, the more I realise that Charlie Lister had the whole thing worked out years ago with giving his dogs plenty of experience of Nottingham.
“Just look at that dog of Chris Akers’ – Martinstown Band. He seems to get better every time he runs the track, and we all know who Chris learned from.”
On the race card itself there were 3 heats of a good class 500m standard open competition.
The first heat of which was won in impressive fashion from behind by Sandra Ralph’s Droopys Aussie in 29.93 (+50) off the back of a 5.24 split.
Heat 2 was won by Pat Rosney’s Newinn Banger in 29.81 (+50) off a 5.06 split whilst the third and final heat was taken by the ever improving Chris Akers trained Martinstown Band. He recorded 29.33 (+50) off the back of a personal best split of 4.97.
