Joe’s Tuesday Tips
***8.41 Crayford – Swift Charming
**8.31 Central Park – Cathals Icon
*7.06 Central Park – Twist Of Cain
Three graded bets this evening with the nap of the evening running at Crayford and the two other bets both at Central Park.
Swift Charming lines up in the S3 contest from trap four at 8.41 and has been given a chance to pick up his first victory since 28 June when winning an S2. He has been well fancied in recent weeks but has had his excuses for finding one too good. Plenty of bumping and crowding has, alongside some fast winning times, meant Swift Charming has had to settle for second on his last four starts. However, a clear run tonight can see him return to winning ways. Estefans Tune can set the pace and as long as Swift Charming can get a clear run into the race he should have too much late on.
The next best is Cathals Icon in the 8.31 at Central Park, a D2 contest. Another who hasn’t won for a while but the majority of recent defeats have come in D1 and Open Race company. He has been beaten in his last two D2s when odds on in both but its only a matter of time before he leads and makes all. He should clear Franco George in trap one if coming away and if he dominates early he should go onto land the spoils.
The Value bet for the evening is Twist Of Cain in the A2, 7.06 at Central Park. He was off the card for just over a month before trialling back well over the sprint trip then after that he went on to finish fourth in a D1 last time out. He steps back up in trip and if leading King Kushner on his immediate inside, he stays well and can get a nice run into the race so at an expected decent price he can run well for value backers.
Produce Stakes updated market
The semi-final stage of the Produce Stakes is on Thursday night at Swindon.
It has been a very open competition so far with three of the four heat winners last week split by just 13 spots. That is reflected in the prices with the majority of connections surely feeling that with a slice of luck, a Category One final place is up for grabs.

Perry Barr thankful for support
Perry Barr racing manager Martin Seal has thanked owners, trainers and racegoers for their “support, patience and understanding” after Saturday’s torrential rain caused a mid-meeting delay and is hoping conditions improve across the next two weekends.
The Midlands venue staged six heats apiece of both the M Lambe Construction Birmingham Cup In Memory of Michael Lambe Senior, sponsored by the family of local trainer John Lambe, and the Premier Greyhound Racing St Leger – and conditions were especially testing for the stayers.
“I’d say that all that qualified deserve their place in Saturday’s semi-finals of both events and hopefully we’re clear of the bad weather now – it was almost quite freakish, but the trackstaff did an amazing job to keep the show on the road once we held off for about an hour. It was a late night but we did the right thing.”
Seal once again thanked the sponsors of both competitions – Premier Greyhound Racing and the Lambe family.
“It’s great to stage two £20,000-to-the-winners events at Perry Barr during the year – the Premier Greyhound Racing Oaks is here in a few weeks time – and the Premier Greyhound Racing St Leger is always top quality and there is still, of course, the chance of history being made should Droopys Clue win again.
“We are also delighted to stage the M Lambe Construction Birmingham Cup In Memory of Michael Lambe Senior – the family have supported this event since 2020 – and the roll of honour is an impressive won dating all the way back to 1939.”
Doncaster Yorkshire Derby Trials
The £8,000 to the winner competition starts on Saturday along with the £3,000 British Bred St Leger.
There were some interesting trials yesterday, including both Romeo Crossfire and Vixons Filofax in action. The former was third in the Northern Flat for Tom Heilbron, behind Wicky Ned. A semi-finalist in the Ladbrokes Gold Cup and a second round casualty in the Produce Stakes since, his first look is smart.
Vixons Filofax made the final of the aforementioned Ladbrokes Gold Cup, finishing fifth to Churchfield Syd. Brian Thompson’s charge was runner-up in the Greyhound Trader Stakes at Towcester on Derby night.
Entries close at midday tomorrow for both competitions.
Also some interesting Hove trials
There was a huge trial session at Hove yesterday.
The East Anglian Derby is in full swing and the 2023 winner Watch The Limo was in action at Hove. In case you missed yesterday’s news, Gone To The Dogs will be broadcasting live from Yarmouth on September 18.
One to watch out for from the Hove trials is Jason Heath’s Burrows Eclipse. He ran Tuono Charlie to 3.5 lengths at Kilkenny back in April in the final of the T.P Weadick Open 725. Behind him were Hopiehopiehopie and Kinturk Road so he looks a stayer of promise.
Kila Detail was the fastest in the sprints for Richard Rees. The Golden Sprint runner-up back in April has only raced twice since. They were the heats and semis of the Hope Jeal Sprint at Towcester.
All trials can be found on the link below.
20th anniversary of the Hawk’s debut
September 10 2004 was the first time that Westmead Hawk was seen in race action.
He was in the care of Gary Bakewell in the early part of his career, including that opening A1 contest. It would take him until start number four to win for the first time, only victorious in one of his first six runs.
The Hawk would run 14 times for Bakewell, winning an A2, five A1s and an open race. Moving to Nick Savva, he took off in a way that few would have believed given his early races at Hall Green. A dual Derby winner, he would then become an exceptional sire.
Both a sire of sires (Taylors Sky, Droopys Ridge, Eden The Kid, Vulture etc) but also a sensational dam sire. His daughter Droopys Laramie produced the likes of Droopys Sydney and Droopys Cain.
His legacy lives on and it started two decades ago on this day.
Central Park fund-raiser night
Central Park Stadium launches first Fund-Racer for Kent-based charities and good causes.
Charities and good causes across Kent in need of a cash boost are being encouraged to sign-up to a new fundraising initiative launched by Central Park Stadium in Sittingbourne.
The greyhound racing venue will host its first Fund-Racer on Saturday, October 26, with six teams of up to 100 guests each invited trackside to raise up to £900 for their chosen cause.
Charities, sports clubs, community centres and individual fundraisers are invited to take part with Central Park distributing 100 free tickets to each team to sell on to friends, family, colleagues or supporters of a particular cause.
All profits generated from ticket sales are retained by the fundraiser, with each team having the chance to top-up monies raised on the night by striking it lucky in a trap challenge competition between other groups in attendance.
It’s an opportunity for groups to raise up to £900 on the night, and Central Park Stadium General Manager Hayley Huntley is encouraging teams to register before spaces fill up.
“We recognise times are challenging financially for many good local causes,” said Hayley. “Asking people to part with their cash can be difficult, so the Fund-Racer is our solution to supporting groups and individuals raising money for a particular cause.
“Ticket sales alone have the potential to raise up to £800, so we encourage anyone interested in learning more to get in touch with our team today.
“We’ve deliberately extended spaces to organisations outside the charity sector too. We appreciate there is a huge volume of sports clubs and community centres who can use our Fund-Racer to help fund new equipment or provisions that will serve a positive purpose to local people.
“We’re excited by the Fund-Racer’s potential and hope it can make a difference to Sittingbourne and the surrounding areas.”
Charities, sports clubs and other good causes interested in registering for Central Park’s Fund-Racer on Saturday, October 26, should email [email protected] or call 01795 475547.
Doors open on the night at 5.30pm with the first race beginning approximately an hour later.
