The Click Competitions 78th East Anglian Derby gets underway at Yarmouth tomorrow evening in what looks a wide open competition for punters to get stuck into.
Antigua Eagle, Gary The Arb and Lion Heart head the betting at 7/1, 8/1 and 9/1 respectively which suggests there are plenty in with a chance of landing this prestigious prize.
My first selection is going to be Druids Say Go at 12/1. She is as classy as they come for Patrick Janssens with so many impressive runs over Romford’s 400 metres and as far as Oxford’s 450 metre trip and she should get this trip comfortably to be competitive. Druids Say Go had a sprint trial on August 14 clocking a smart 16.33 and followed that up with an impressive four bend trial last week when posting 27.70 for the 462 metre trip. She has a good draw in trap one to work from in the first round and all being well she can safely progress to next weeks semi final where we hope for a nice draw.
My second selection is Aero Convey at 25/1. He has a fantastic make up in round one from trap five with trap four Yahoo Lolls a tight railer who will be moving inside from trap rise and a dog who always seems to be a big price but rarely runs a bad race, Aero Convey is one who can hopefully get through tomorrows heat comfortably. A first look of 28.16 at Yarmouth was soon put to bed with an improved 27.76 trial next time being his second look at the track and a clear run in round one can see him go better and take his place in next weeks semi final.
My final selection is Bramble Linton at 50/1 who is making the long journey with Steve Anderson from the north east. A fairly lightly raced type who has plenty of solid sprint lines of form on the card with 15.89 victories at Sheffield as well as a flying 16.68 trial at Newcastle. He has been tried over four bends including a 28.43 victory at Monmore back in February and although he is coming here without a look, a good draw in trap one in round one can hopefully see him finish in the first three improving for his first look in the semi final so at 50/1 he is worth keeping on the right side of.

Nottingham double for Carol Weatherall
Clona King and Rebel Venus both qualify for next week’s Arc Maiden Trophy.
The last time that Clona King was at Nottingham he ran into March On Freddie. The way was clear on Monday night for him to justify prohibitive odds of 1/6 to get himself off the mark in England. His 29.87 (+60) was the quickest of the three heats. His kennel mate Rebel Venus clocked 30.27 in his win.
Wolf Gold was the winner of the other heat for Jill Llewellin in 29.98, picking up long time leader Seaside Degs in the shadow of the post. Jason Gray who trains the runner-up also had the second to Rebel Venus with Loxleys Forest. Llewellin had the runner-up to Clona King to make it three trainers doubly represented in next Monday’s Final.
Richie Taberner was on the board courtesy of Aero Becks in the Jenningsbet Sprint Trophy Final. The other open on the card was also a 305m contest which went the way of Time Counts, another winner on an excellent night for Jill Llewellin.
Callaway Knegare backed for Boylesports Irish Derby
The sponsors have seen money following his Time Juvenile Derby success.
An early show of 8/1 didn’t last long with a point trimmed off his price after success on Saturday. Bockos Diamond is the second favourite at 10/1 with English Derby winner De Lahdedah at 12/1.
Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “We were all expecting an electric performance from Callaway Knegare in the Juvenile Derby final and that’s exactly what we got. With attention now turning to the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby, plenty expect Owen McKenna’s star to shine at Shelbourne again.”
March On Freddie is the top of the English runners quoted in the market at 25/1.
New 750y figures set at Limerick
14 straight wins for the staying star, Tuono Charlie.
Saturday night saw Tuono Charlie add the Limerick clock to his Tralee one. His last four races have seen him set the Tralee track record, equal that time and set the new Limerick record. That is a remarkable run by any standard, especially with such a long unbeaten streak going at the same time.
He didn’t just beat the Limerick record, he smashed it! 35 spots was the margin over the clock set by Threesixfive last year. On his way to that record he produced a sensational 27.81 split to 525y. That was in the first round of the Irish Cambridgeshire which continues this weekend.
Tuono Charlie is a top price 1/3 to claim overall victory in the competition. Ballyhooly Tejay, Droopys Comrade and Kanturk Road are all 5/1. Lilac Tree at 8/1 is the only other one in the market shorter than 25/1.
A week on from Crayford’s NGW success
Another family fun day success story from last week.
Free admission produced another bumper crowd with all 12 race winners gaining trophies. All children in attendance were given rosettes and wristbands plus, most importantly, the chance to meet retired greyhound Rosie.
Rosie is part of the Friends of Crayford Retired Greyhounds initiative and was able to show what exceptional pets greyhounds make.
