Joe’s tips for Tuesday

We’re back for three graded bets today after a disappointing evening at Nottingham yesterday. Our main selection Millbank Boiler was beaten by an impressive winner in Droopys Suprstar. If you had taken the 11/4 about Millbank Boiler you would have been delighted to see him starting at 1/2 fav. You would’ve been counting your winnings heading into the third bend but unfortunately, he tied up going to the winning line finishing second in a fast time of 29.73 (+30) beat 1 1/4 lengths.

Central Park Nap

Tonight we head to Central Park for our main bets of the evening. The NAP is the Tony Collett-trained Outdoor Cracker who runs from trap two in A2 in the 8.47. This November 22 puppy hasn’t had things his own way in three UK starts at the Kent venue.

They have all come in A2 company but he has shown enough to suggest that he will soon be leaving this grade behind him. That is especially true on his June 29 run where he flew from the second to third bend before finding trouble when trying to close in on the leader.

Collett has been on the road with Outdoor Cracker taking him to Hove for two trials over the 515m trip. He drops back into a winnable A2 here. He has been in tough A2s to date but this is a chance for the dog to pick up his first UK victory at the fourth time of asking. Any kind of run for Outdoor Cracker should see him go on to win.

Central Park Next Best

The Next Best is Tuona Bella in the A1, the 7.39 at Central Park. Now, I’m not a massive fan of putting dogs up who have been off the card for a while and also 13 1/2 weeks out of season. Paul Donovan’s classy bitch clocked a decent 29.83 trial on 16th July, however, she has been given a decent chance here to get her head in front.

Her form before coming into season was as good as it gets over six bends finishing second to Havana Top Note in the Hunt Cup at Oxford. Prior to that, she beat Coonough Crow just under 6 lengths at Central Park over the 664m trip in March.

If she gets a run early and comes on for last week’s trial she wouldn’t have to find too much off her trial to get competitive here and with natural improvement and progression expected, she should go close.

Central Park Value Bet

One at a decent price who could go well is another greyhound trained by Tony Collett/ That is Clear Mission from trap one in the 7.06 A4 at Central Park. There are a couple of unexposed types in the race. Swift Ubiquity in trap three is a January 23 puppy and Lindas Grandkids in trap 5 who will both be battling out for the lead. The lack of experience could pave the way for Clear Mission to take advantage of any mistakes made by the leaders, so for a spot of value, we will be with Clear Mission.

Selections

***NAP*** – 8.47 Central Park, Trap 2 Outdoor Cracker
**Next Best ** 7.39 Central Park, Trap 2 Tuona Bella
*Value Bet* 7.06 Central Park, Trap 1 Clear Mission

Freddie marching towards Puppy Classic

March On Freddie produced an impressive trial at Nottingham last night for David Mullins.

He stopped the clock at 29.56 (+40), more than four lengths quicker than any other trial. More impressive was the fact that he did it off a relatively pedestrian sectional of 5.21. He has only had eight runs in his career so far, producing smart times across the board.

A 28.98 at Hove in May stands as the third quickest time of 2024 over 500m behind Queen Joni and Droopys Pivotel. Heats of the Puppy Classic are on Monday, August 12 with the £12,500 to the winner final on August 26.

Three opens at Nottingham last night went to Cappaneale Rocky for John Lambe, Droopys Suprstar for Michael Burton and Goldcash Bison for Stewart Pedder.

Brown trebles up at Suffolk Downs

At Suffolk Downs, Yahoo Megan picked up her 10th open race win of the year. That puts her into the top 10 in the country in terms of win numbers this year. Patrick Janssens doubled up on the card with Breton Molly in a 548m contest, winning by 18.5 lengths.

Michelle Brown went one better with a treble. Homestead Anna won the 716m contest while both Lemming Sprit and Mohican Toad landed 220m sprints. Jean Liles and Paul Whitwood won the other opens on the card with Mustang Beyonce and Swift Bankrupt respectively.

Birmingham Cup sponsorship deal

Perry Barr racing manager Martin Seal was delighted to confirm the sponsorship of this year’s Birmingham Cup yesterday, which sees the family of trainer John Lambe back the 480m annual for the fifth year running in September.

The M Lambe Construction Birmingham Cup In Memory of Michael Lambe Senior will be once again staged alongside the Premier Greyhound Racing St Leger with heats on Saturday, September 7, the semi-finals on Saturday, September 14, and the £12,500-to-the-winner final on Saturday, September 21.

The Lambe family first supported the Birmingham Cup in 2020 when victory went to Angela Harrison’s Droopys Carat. Candy Man (2021, Carol Weatherall), Ivanexile (2022, Matt Dartnall) and Brookside Richie (2023, Jimmy Fenwick) have been the winners since – adding their names to an impressive roll of honour.

“The Birmingham Cup has a great history dating back to 1939 and the winners of the competition are always top-class,” said Seal.

“We’re delighted John and his family are supporting the race for the fifth year running and I’m sure we can again expect a great entry again – and a fantastic few Saturdays here in September given the St Leger will also be run on the same nights.”
