There were doubles for Carl Perry and Carol Weatherall with the Perry Barr trainer also responsible for the performance of the night on NOTTINGHAM’s British Bred Stakes supporting card on Monday.
Calico Blackjack (Holdem Spy-Wont Fall Behind, Aug 15) recorded the fastest 500 of the night and the fifth fastest of the year with a powerful display from trap six. . .
The winner clocked 29.46 for the 500m and resumed a British career of six wins and a second in his last seven races, in the middle of which was an Irish Derby campaign which indicated he never really took to Shelbourne Park. The second leg of the 6-1 double came courtesy of litter brother Calico Ranger in 29.79 for the same distance.
Carl Perry landed the British bred event with winning favourites Geelo Zip (Ballymac Eske-Emers Ivy, Aug 15) in 29.70 and the bitch’s race with Geelo Brenny (Cashen Legend-Boher Lass, Jan 14) in 30.12.
The performance of the night at SHEFFIELD came from Lightfoot Oscar (Candlelight King-Puma Girl, Apr 16) in a 480m open. Sean Davy’ 18 month old had twice broken 28.00 for the 480m in qualifying and produced a brilliant run to win by seven lengths in the first race of his career.
