Droopys Trapper, who made a big impression when winning on his debut at Sunderland on 17 June, impressed with another excellent winning effort at the track on Friday. The October 16 puppy was led to around halfway by Swift Magpie but powered clear going into the third bend before pulling away to win by three lengths in 27.03sec.
He is a 40-1 shot for next year’s Derby and an obvious contender for the upcoming Puppy Plate at Sunderland (starts 11 July). His litter brother, Droopys Trawler, made his debut in the same race but was never going to make an impression after finding early trouble – he is, however, one to keep an eye on.
The fastest on the night over the 450 metres trip was Bramble Milburn who soon asserted on his way to a 27.00sec success over Azzurri Genesis, who ran on well after first bend trouble, eventually going down by just over a length.
Elsewhere on the card, Gary Ferguson landed a double with Brinkleys Rebel (27.59sec) and the near five-year-old Pennys Tarzan (27.18sec), while the pick of the 640 metres winners was Burgess Lord, who came from behind Onedin Paradise to nail that rival by half a length in a useful enough 39.42sec. That made it two wins from three over C&D for Debbie Calvert’s runner.
The sprint went to Troy Bella who showed great pace into the turn before going on to score by over three lengths in a rapid 15.61sec and making it four wins from his last six starts for trainer David Mullins.
At Romford, Bockos Alfie and All Slick Now recorded identical 23.87sec successes, while Phil Simmonds was in double form with Droopys Baggio (24.07sec) and Droopys Zaza (23.99sec). Over the 575 metres course Stand Alone (35.59sec) went quickest in an S1 race. Our man at Romford, Rob Abrey, made him one of the best bets of the night.
Central Park held a one off hurdles open which saw 1/5F Lenson Wilson rout his rivals with an over 12-length all the way win in 29.15sec.
