TEEJAYSPOWERHAWK– Paul Young
He is the only railer in the race and so has an ideal draw. He ran a cracker on Juvenile night at Wimbledon where he went past Chicago and was just caught in the final stride by Vanrooney. It is ‘catch me if you can’ and I expect him to be a big points scorer if he doesn’t win it.
CHICAGO – Seamus Cahill
There is a lot of pace on the inside in this race and getting a lead at the first bend will be absolutely vial for Chicago. It won’t be easy because I wouldn’t want to see him on the outside of Teejayspowerhawk. Although it is towards his limit on distance, I think he can hold on providing he leads.
DROOPYS BEAR – Dean Childs
Bear is one of our few runners who has been racing through the winter in the Golden Jacket. Unfortunately, he then picked up the virus which put him back. He was a very good dog at Hove over 687m for us and he can hopefully reproduced some of his better form.
TOOSEY BEANNIE – John Mullins
Beannie finds herself up against a very high class field. She would need to break and lead to have any chance of winning. Realistically she will be running from behind but I wouldn’t rule her out finishing in the first three.
VANROONEY – Mark Wallis
He has really come to form and that last performance at Wimbledon, where he came from ten lengths off the pace was amazing. He did everything wrong and still beat a couple of the opposition on merit.
I can’t see any reason why he shouldn’t do even better over the extra distance and he would have to rate as my nap.
SWANSALONA DIVA – Kevin Hutton
She finished lame at Towcester in December and this event has come a bit too earlier. You wouldn’t normally expect to go from 509m straight up to 708m. She will need to lead to have any chance but I think she is two or three races short of her best.
