Towcester’s open race offerings have eased since their switched their feature night from Sunday to Saturday – but they bounce back in style this weekend.
On Saturday, Britain’s newest track are offering the first round of the Totepool Premier League and four cracking heats of the PCS Legal Puppy Oaks.
The Premier League battle sees Mark Wallis, Kevin Hutton, Paul Young, Heather Dimmock, Barrie Draper and Eric Cantillon send out runners in four events over three different distances.
Needless to say, with three handlers from the Trainers Championship meeting taking part, they have taken the opportunity of fielding some of those same stars.
But in opposition to the likes of Blue Moment, Cloudbursting Jolly Tricks, and Teejayspowerhawk are northern stars Sharp Mover, United Leeds and Glenpadden Oak plus Sittingbourne ‘450’ record breaker Farley Champ.
Meanwhile those who even doubted that the track could fill a 24 runner puppy Oaks will be shocked by the quality of the field.
Several runners catch the eye, starting with the latest ‘Roxholme’ on the scene, Roxholme Hottie who has trialled in a calculated 28.04 for the standard.
Then there’s the local 28.25 winner Parkers Poison, Gymcrack finalist Yesnomaybeso and a whole string of lightly, or unraced, ‘Droopys’ pups with Scion, Pumpkin, Alberta plus the very fast Axis (28.24).
