Bromwich Tom justified favouritism in the final of the Betfred Standard Trophy over 500 metres at Nottingham on Monday.
Lynn Cook’s local runner, who went to traps the 6-4 favourite, saw off the persistent challenge of Toms Knowledge at the third turn and went on to hold the late flourish of El Flutter by three quarters of a length in 29.90sec.
Cook said: “It’s great to have him fully right after a few problems.”
The performance of the night came from Alma Valentine in the Betfred Standard Trophy over 500 metres.
Alec Stone’s bitch produced what must be one of the best performances of the year at Colwick Park when destroying a field which included Oaks runner-up Bromwich Sue, by over five lengths in 29.68sec.
Stone said afterwards: “Something clicked with her a few weeks ago and she’s absolutely flying. That was her fourth win in March.”
Sidarian Bullet completed a four-timer for Charlie Lister in the second division of the Betfred Sprint over 305 metres.
The son of Central City made all to beat Ballymac Godsend by just over three lengths in 17.84sec.
Stone had a double when Almas Prince outstayed Gordons Alive by five lengths over the 730 metre trip in 45.02sec.
Jim Daly’s Salmon Fishing went quicker in the top division when making all to hold Slick Seawolf by a length and a half in 17.69sec.
