Steel City field announced

Sunday sees the start of a fourth Category One in three days!

It’s a strong looking field headed by Wicky Ned. The Gymcrack and Northern Flat winner has only had 10 races in England after arriving from a single run in Ireland. Two Category One wins with so few races under his belt is remarkable. He will be in the final heat.

Links Maverick set himself up perfectly for this with his match race win at Romford. The 2023 Pall Mall and Ladbrokes Gold Cup winner has a bit of pace inside him in the form of Skywalker Amanda in heat four. She produced a career best run last Sunday when getting the better of Droopys Extragud.

That dog is in heat two where he will take on Produce Stakes finalist Romeo Cypher. The competition will open with Ballymac John and Wrighty taking on another Produce Stakes finalist in Romeo Crusade. Union Rebel is yet another out of the Swindon final, he is in heat five. Only one dog has more open race wins in 2024 than Acomb Felix, he looks to add to that in heat three. Click here for the form of all six heats.

Central Park track record holder has more to come

The Category One starts on Saturday evening at Central Park.

Rab McNair believes there is more to come from kennel star King Memphis after he lowered Central Park Stadium’s 491m track record on Saturday to 28.73.

“There’s more to come from him, I’m confident of that,” said Rab. “We felt he needed a good break after the Derby which is the ultimate challenge for any greyhound.

“He’s coming back to himself and we’re seeing a difference in him with every run. The Kent Derby has been his main target for autumn and it’s a competition we love. It’s our local track and where the journey begins for all our dogs so to win it again would be great.

“He’s won both his Trial Stakes, so right now we’re in a good place and looking forward to Saturday’s opening round.”

Withdrawals at Oxford

Oxford’s morning card was hit with eight withdrawals, of which seven were Dave Jeans trained runners.
Jade Allen from the Oxford racing office said: “Dave isn’t able to do morning meetings and his runners were graded in error.
“The trainer didn’t want the other runner Swift Isla back on the card today but there was a communication error.
“Unfortunately, the new email system is causing a few problems including mails going into spam folders. We’ve had quite a few issues with it so far.”

Hove Trials

Wasted Monday had his second trial back yesterday after last being seen in race action since August 1. The Olympic is still a couple of months away, with the Sussex cup runner-up looking a likely contender.
