Joe’s Thursday Tips

*** 9.36 7.16 Hove – Lightfoot Falcon
** 8.07 Hove – Lossies Ace
*9.52 Swindon – Newinn Sharky

Plenty of open race action this evening taking place at Hove and Swindon.

The highlight of the evening being the exciting new recruit Missile One for the Seamus Cahill team who lines up in the Coral 500 Maiden Trophy Final at 8.24 pm.

Early quotes of 25/1 for next year’s Greyhound Derby show the calibre of this September 2022 puppy who should follow up last week’s heat success by landing this category three competition.

Two heats of the Coral 695 Stayers Trophy at 6.59 and 7.16 are other notable races on the card where Matt Dartnall’s Move Over Ogie can reverse recent form with Beloved Brenda and Turkish Lira to land heat one and Regency fourth Lightfoot Falcon can take heat two from trap six.

Candolim Monsoon will be looking to get back to winning ways in the Coral Summertime 500 Standard at 6.42 and the race of the night at 8.59 sees Greyhound Derby semi-finalist Droopys Pivotel line up against Sussex Cup finalists Clona Uriel and Uncle Freddie in the Coral Summertime 500 Standard where Droopys Pivotel can land the spoils from a good draw in trap one.

Lossies Ace is of some interest in the Coral Summertime 695 Maiden Stayers at 8.07. In a race where there are question marks over the stamina of some of her rivals, she wouldn’t have to do anything out of the ordinary to get competitive having won over six bends in Ireland including an open at Limerick.

Swindon Tonight

At Swindon Ballymac Rocky can continue his fine form on home soil by winning the Blunsdon Stayers at 9.36.

At 9.02 trap one Arthur Cucumber can reverse recent form With trap five Baggios Intent who has got a tougher make up with Speedy Joey on her immediate inside who can stop her from having things her own way.

In the lucky last Newinn Sharky for Carol Weatherall can pick up his second victory after a stop-start career to date. He lines up from trap one where a level break should see him in front off the second bend where he can assert heading into the third turn to land the Blunsdon Standard at 9.52.

Trials to note

Droopys Eunice, a finalist for Maxine Locke in both the Arc Northern Puppy Derby at Newcastle and Premier Greyhound Racing Puppy Derby at Monmore, trials over 285m at Hove tonight.

At the same session, Jason Heath’s Coral Regency finalist Haka Carlo, goes over 500m.

Saturday sees a bumper card at Monmore with the start of the Ladbrokes Gold Cup (480m) and Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic (630m) – with six heats apiece for both Category One competitions.

However, trials before racing are also eye-catching with the supporting events in mind.

Arc Silver Salver winner Magical Bluebear (Bill Russell) goes over 264m in a solo, while over the same trip Bet365 Northamptonshire Sprint winner Broadway Murty (Sean White), back winning at Towcester last week, will trial with Cree Jo Jo (Richie Taberner), a winner at the Wolverhampton track on Saturday. Derby final night sprint winner Not So Slow (Richard Rees) is also being put through his paces.

John Mullins’s classy stayer Aayamza Sydney, the Coral Essex Vase runner-up, also has sprint solo.

Sheffield sprint on Sunday shaping up well

Tonelagee, a finalist in the recent Time Greyhound Nutrition Northern Flat, at home track Newcastle, reappears at Sheffield on Sunday.

Trained by Savva Roberts, the son of Dorotas Wildcat lines up in the Owlerton Stadium Sprint against Bettys Jack, the prolific-winning former Kevin Boon-trained runner who is having his first start for new owner and trainer Colin Handford.

Time Juvenile Derby

Shelbourne will have the opening round of the Time Juvenile Derby on Friday. Sadly the week’s delay didn’t see the field grow so it is a 36-dog stake rather than 48. The quality is there, however with some of the top pups in Ireland taking their chances.

Yorkie Ollie went through the recent unraced stake at the track unbeaten with Boylesports Blue behind him in the final. Droopys Plunge is another recent winner of an unraced stake. Callaway Knegare has been lighting up the clock in recent trials with 27.99 and 27.89. He was behind Droopys Plunge in the Denis Linehan unraced at Cork.
