Towcester with food for thought
For those who have enjoyed the on-track experience during this year’s Derby, next weekend, (June 22/23) should see the biggest crowd to date with one of the venue’s hugely popular food festivals.
The weekend offers an opportunity for hundreds of non-racing folk to enjoy greyhound racing with additional attractions for the kids. As for the kennel staff, it seems unlikely that any will be going home hungry. . . .
This Saturday’s Derby quarter finals will be supported by four heats of the Greyhound-trader.com Stakes and the qualifiers for the Townview Kennels Derby Plate.
The later includes the defending champ Whyaye Ma, the lady who briefly headed the Derby ante post lists, Queen Joni, with a stong Irish contingent adding further quality to the event. (Link below)
Looking for Clues
Greyhound of the Year Droopys Clue is due to trial at Towcester on Sunday following lameness that made his miss the Derby. The joint record holder for the 500 metre course has been off since pulling up lame with a wrist injury in mid-April.
Trainer Seamus Cahill said: “It was a sprain which was x-rayed and injuected and hopefully isn’t too bad. We’ve given him a few gallops at home and fingers crossed. If we want to run him on finals night, we need to get a couple of runs into him now.
“We will obviously take it one step at a time. If all goes well, he will probably go to Hove and we then have to decided between the Sussex Cup and the Regency.”
