With Sheffield easing up on their open races, the Tykes once again headed across the Pennines and captured three of the five prizes on offer at BELLE VUE.
Elaine Parker (inevitably) returned double handed with Barnside Chloe (Forest Master-Light Foot Molly, Aug 14) producing the performance of the night. The 4-9f covered the 670 metres in 40.52 – the second fastest time over course and distance in the last five years. Kennelmate Blackstone Lyric (Sh Avatar-Raising Song, Feb 15) continued his profitable run over six bends. Having won two of his previous four outings at 5-1 and 12-1, he was returned at 9-2 when landing the 590m open in 35.72 (+15).
White Rose ladies also ruled in the bitches race as the Sharpe trained Copeland Betty (Vans Escalade-Copeland Poppy, Jun 14) justified 11-10f in 27.84 for the 470m. Betty’s kennelmate Worsboro Spectre has been making a living on his trips to The Zoo but came unstuck seeking a four-timer when beaten a length by Corrin Price’s Midlands raider Black Sea (Kinloch Brae-Beba Babe, Aug 14) who returned at 4-1 with a length victory in 15.14 (N) for the 260m. The host’s sole success on the night was Brian Thompson’s Swift Melampe (Godsend-Swift Salt, May 15) in 27.81 (+10) for the 470m.
Of the ten opens at HOVE, eight went to just four kennels with Swift Watson (Iso Octane-Swift Fanta, Aug 13) once again proving irresistible for the locals. Jason Heath’s runner was once again opposed by the exciting youngster Broadstrand Kiwi, but completed a four-timer in 16.33 (-05) for the sprint. All four wins were calculated to within nine spots – though the racing office possibly use the metronomic Watson when calculating their going allowances! The kennel’s other winner was 5-2 chance Houdini Lee (Shaneboy Lee-Juno Doll, May 14) who clocked the fastest 515 of the night in 29.90 (-10).
Droopys Jester (Aero Majestic-Droopys Hilda, Sep 14) had gone to within a spot of the Crayford 380m record in her previous outing and went to trap six as the 7-4f in the heats of a 475m competition. Locally trained Mallogs Nina went from five.
Jester’s winning margin was a short head in a time of 27.94 (-10). Kennelmate Droopys Giorgio (Droopys Cain-Droopys Loner, Aug 15), who brother Droopys Bonuci headed the previous day’s Derby trial times, went to traps at 4-5f in the second qualifier and obliged in 27.83.
The third qualifier went to a similarly prefixed winner in Droopys Griezman (Forest Master-Droopys Twirl, Aug 15) though this one was handled by Paul Young in 28.05 (-10).
The Young double was instigated when 10-1 outsider Batmans Aunt (Uncle Eoin-Pinafore, Sep 14) landed the night’s most lucrative event, the £500 bitches decider in 30.31 (-10) from Brighton Belle winner Banabane who is showing signs of returning to her best form.
Central Park’s Tony Collett turned up with six runners and returned home with a Kentish double. First up was Golden Crest runner-up Kentish Duke (Scolari Me Dady-Foulscourt Echo, May 14) who justified his 6-4f SP with a 27.81 run. The double was completed when Kentish Master (Melodys Royal-Superstar Pearl, Feb 15) landed the night’s concluding open in 30.32.
The card was completed by the ladies with Keppie’s Tolpuddle Dawn (Tulymurry Act-Broadacres Mist, Feb 15) returning at 5-1 when winning in 30.46 (-10) for the 515. The performance of the night though was probably June Harvey’s Clares Kyletaun (Ballyana Foxtro-Lughill Marie, Jul 15). Backed into odds-on on his UK debut – he only has three races on his Irish card – the red jacketed runners showed tremendous gears to win in 42.36 (-20) and is surely one for every notebook.
MONMORE attracted only eight outside entries for their eight opens and local trainers duly landed the seven that completed with one void.
The performance of the night was probably La Brava‘s (Head Bound-Callura Lark, Apr 14) in the toughest 480 when he carried off in a respectable 28.45 (-30). Trainer Paul Sallis landed the opening leg of a treble with pup Laidback Larry (Taylors Sky-Ardcroney Rachel, Jul 15) in 28.94 and completed it with another youngster in 29.05 winner Scolari Me Baby (Scolari Me Daddy-Rossa Baby, Sep 15).
Droopys Moon (Mall Brandy-Droopys Force, Oct 14) took full advantage of favourite Coolavanny Bear missing his break and clocked a highly respectable 38.29 (-30) for Sandra Ralph who also won a 480 open with and Puckane Lad (Crash-Puckane Lady, Sep 13) in 28.61. The other 630 went the way of Inky Boom (Droopys Maldini-Supreme French, Apr 13) in 38.64. Corrin Price took the other 480 with Tyrur Spieth (Tyrur Sugar Ray-Tyrur Fergie, Jun 14) in 28.85.
