The performance of the night at Hove on Thursday was surely secured by puppy sprinter Broadstrand Kiwi (Forest Master-Droopys Twirl, Aug 15).
Making his racing debut in the heats of a 285m competition, the Paul Young trained evens favourite beat Poole record holder Only One Leemac by four and a bit in the fastest time of the year – 16.12 (N).

There was also another fine performance from 4-5f Droopys Gold (Loughteen Blanco-Droopys Force,Sep 15) in the ‘Winner of One’ final. Draw for the sprint final
A slow track disguised an impressive six bend debut for Cuba Libre (Premier Fantasy-Sive Dubh, Apr 15) at Monmore of Thursday.
Pat Rosney has been itching to try the young coloured dog over ‘a short six bends’ and the 28.21 (calc) 480m winner did not disappoint.
Backed to 4-7f, Libre was able to enjoy leading for the first time and he never looked back. He crossed the 630m winning line with more than eight lengths to spare over Salems Nemesis in a time of 38.12.
That was reduced to a calculated 37.52 based a going allowance of -60. Although such allowances are subjective, it looked a fair call given a number of simple comparison times including prolific A1 winner Oleg recording 28.81 (-30). Also, the other 630m maiden went to Slick Ranie Ri in a time exactly one second slower than Libre’s.
The Rosney range was also on the mark at Belle Vue where Newinn Blitz (Kinloch Brae-Any Time Again, Sep 14) beat kennelmate Swift Asbolos in the fastest 470 of the year – 27.52.
Not far behind was John Walton’s pup Serious Hangover (Kinloch Brae-Cornamaddy Maid, Aug 15) with a run of 27.88.
