Puppy Droopys Expert (Greenwell Hawk-Droopys Riona, Oct 15) produced one of the greatest performances ever seen at NEWCASTLE with a sensational 27.98 480 metre victory on Thursday night.
In fact, technically, it is the fastest ever run at ‘Newcastle’ because the place was still called Brough Park when Droopys Shearer set a new track record on 1 July 2004. Interestingly, Shearer’s run on the old pre-renovated circuit was recorded on (+30) going compared to Expert’s (+10).
By comparison, Expert’s nine length win as 57 spots quicker than the night’s next quickest run, though connections of Stole My Baby will still be rightly delighted by their Jan ’16 youngster.
Droopys Trapeze (Tullymurry Act-Droopys Blossom, Sep 14) clocked the fastest 290 of the year (16.81), but the third of Angela Harrison’s star’s Shellam Delano (4-9f) was surprisingly turned over.
British bred Geelo Monty (Ballymac Eske-Macys Perfect, May 15) swept past early leader Tynwald Dinney and beat the favourite by just over three lengths in 40.46 (N) for the 670m. Delano’s clock is 40.43 (+20).
Swindon trainer John Spracklen doesn’t so much ‘raid’ MONMORE as ‘harvest’ it. On Thursday he arrived with one runner, Moreton Madras (Kinloch Brae-Precious Story, Jul 15) and came away with yet another £200 open victory. The strong running black covered the 630m in a very respectable 38.07 (+10).
Since the beginning of the year, Moreton’s: Madras, Melody and Volare have contested nine Wolverhampton opens between them and have won five at odds of 4-6, 4-5, 4-1, 6-1 and 10-1.
Quickest over the four bend course was Corren Price’s Black Toms Brae (Kinloch Brae-China Doll, Aug 14). The litter brother to Derby winner Astute Missile and star stayers Karlow Turbo followed up his A3 28.18 victory with a first open race success in 28.26. More to come from this one. . .
With the Brighton Belle just four weeks away, last year’s winner Banabane and her illustrious kennelmate Crossfield Molly produced the two performances of the night at HOVE on Thursday.
Amazingly, Banabane (Droopys Scolari-Ballymac Razl, Mar 14) only had one previous race over the Hove 475m course in her first 65 races, but she showed she was returning to form when chasing down Crossfield Hugo in a FON 27.73 (N) for the 475m.
2016 Lowther winner Crossfield Molly (Blackstone Gene-Droopys Thrill, Nov 13) won – incredibly – her first ever race over the 515m course. Unlucky in her previous outing, she proved too good for Celtic Ash with a FON 29.85 (N).
